Early Warning Early signs of fentanyl dependence include using more than prescribed or seeking fentanyl from non-medical sources, needing increasing amounts to achieve the same effect, and spending significant time obtaining, using, or recovering from opioids. You may notice drowsiness at unusual times, constricted “pinpoint” pupils, or mood swings between euphoria and irritability.
Escalating Use As fentanyl addiction takes hold, the signs become impossible to hide. Failing to fulfill responsibilities at work, school, or home is common. Social isolation increases. You may find yourself doctor shopping, using illicit fentanyl, or mixing substances despite knowing the extreme overdose risk.
