Supporting someone through opioid addiction is hard. These tips can make the conversation easier.
Learn about opioid addiction as a brain disease, not a moral failing. Understanding how opioids hijack the brain’s reward system helps reduce blame and opens the door to compassion.
There’s a difference between helping and enabling. Stop covering for them, making excuses, or removing natural consequences of their use.
Keep Narcan on hand — it reverses opioid overdoses and is available at most NH pharmacies without a prescription. Knowing how to use it can save a life.
Trailhead offers monthly Zoom family education groups. Open to all family members 18+, past and present clients. Curriculum covers codependency, family systems, and more.
You can’t pour from an empty cup. Seek your own therapy, attend Nar-Anon meetings, and prioritize your mental health too.
Medication-assisted treatment like Suboxone is not “replacing one drug with another.” MAT is evidence-based medicine that saves lives and supports lasting recovery.
Our family support program is open to all family members 18+. Call (857) 312-1697
It’s painful when someone you love won’t accept help. Here are steps that can make a difference.
With opioids, “rock bottom” can mean death. Fentanyl contamination makes every use potentially fatal. Earlier intervention saves lives.
Express concern without judgment. “I’ve noticed...” instead of “You always...”. Motivational interviewing techniques can help guide the conversation.
Boundaries aren’t ultimatums — they’re statements of what you will and won’t accept. Enforce them consistently with love.
A trained interventionist can facilitate a structured conversation. This is not about ambushing — it’s about organized, loving support.
If there’s immediate danger — overdose, blue lips, unresponsiveness — call 911 and administer Narcan if available. For guidance on next steps, call us anytime.
Our admissions team can guide you through next steps — even if your loved one isn’t ready yet.

We provide opioid addiction treatment for clients throughout Salem, NH, and Greater New Hampshire. Conveniently located just minutes off Route 93 with dual NH/MA licensing.
Key signs include pinpoint pupils, drowsiness, constipation, running out of prescriptions early, track marks, withdrawal symptoms (muscle aches, chills, vomiting), and inability to stop using despite wanting to.
PHP typically lasts 20–30 days, followed by IOP for 60–90 days. MAT may continue for months or years. Many clients continue with outpatient therapy and alumni support for ongoing maintenance.
We don’t provide medical detox on-site but coordinate closely with trusted detox facilities. Most clients can begin our program within 24–48 hours after completing detox or once stabilized on MAT.
Our MAT options include Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone), Subutex (buprenorphine), Vivitrol (naltrexone injection), and Methadone referral. Our on-site NP manages all MAT prescriptions.
