Supporting someone through heroin addiction is terrifying. These tips can help you take the right steps.
Learn about heroin addiction as a brain disease, not a choice. Heroin rewires the brain’s reward system so profoundly that quitting without help is nearly impossible.
Keep Narcan on hand — it reverses heroin overdoses and is available at most NH pharmacies without a prescription. Learn how to recognize overdose signs and administer it.
There’s a difference between helping and enabling. Stop covering for them, lending money, or removing natural consequences of their use.
Trailhead offers monthly Zoom family education groups. Open to all family members 18+, past and present clients. Curriculum covers codependency, family systems, and more.
You can’t pour from an empty cup. Seek your own therapy, attend Nar-Anon meetings, and prioritize your mental health too.
Suboxone and Methadone are not “replacing one drug with another.” MAT is FDA-approved, evidence-based medicine that reduces overdose death by 50% or more.
Our family support program is open to all family members 18+. Call (857) 312-1697
It’s painful when someone you love won’t accept help. Here are steps that can make a difference.
With heroin, “rock bottom” can mean death. Fentanyl-laced heroin makes every single use potentially fatal. Earlier intervention saves lives.
Express concern without judgment. “I’ve noticed...” instead of “You always...”. Motivational interviewing techniques can help guide the conversation.
Boundaries aren’t ultimatums — they’re statements of what you will and won’t accept. Enforce them consistently with love.
A trained interventionist can facilitate a structured conversation. This is not about ambushing — it’s about organized, loving support.
If there’s immediate danger — overdose, blue lips, slow breathing, unresponsiveness — call 911 and administer Narcan if available. For guidance on next steps, call us anytime.
Our admissions team can guide you through next steps — even if your loved one isn’t ready yet.
☎ Call (857) 312-1697You don’t have to navigate this alone. Our family program provides education, support, and community.
We provide heroin addiction treatment for clients throughout Salem, NH, and Greater New Hampshire. Conveniently located just minutes off Route 93 with dual NH/MA licensing.
Key signs include pinpoint pupils, nodding off, track marks on arms, withdrawal sickness between doses, secretive behavior, small bags or burnt foil, and dramatic changes in appearance and hygiene.
PHP typically lasts 20–30 days, followed by IOP for 60–90 days. MAT may continue for months or years. Many clients continue with outpatient therapy and alumni support long-term.
We don’t provide medical detox on-site but coordinate closely with trusted detox facilities. Most clients can begin our program within 24–48 hours after completing detox or once stabilized on Suboxone.
Our MAT options include Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone), Vivitrol (naltrexone injection), and Methadone referral. Our on-site NP manages all prescriptions and adjusts dosing as needed throughout treatment.
Absolutely. Our Evening Professional Track (6–9 PM, Mon–Thu) is specifically designed for working adults who need treatment without disrupting their careers.
Most major insurance plans are accepted, including Anthem BCBS, Point 32, Tricare, and WellSense NH Medicaid. The Mental Health Parity Act requires insurers to cover substance use treatment. Use our verification form or call us.
No. Suboxone is FDA-approved medicine that reduces cravings, prevents withdrawal, and blocks the euphoric effects of heroin. Research shows MAT reduces overdose death by over 50%. It stabilizes brain chemistry so clients can engage in therapy.
