Flexible AM, PM, and evening IOP tracks designed as a step-down from PHP. 60-90 days of evidence-based therapy, group support, and real-world skill building — on your schedule.
"The evening IOP track let me keep my job while getting real treatment. I never thought I could balance both, but Trailhead made it work."
"Stepping down from PHP to IOP felt seamless. The same team, the same support — just more space to practice everything I learned in real life."
"IOP gave me the flexibility I needed as a working parent. Group therapy and weekly individual sessions kept me accountable without disrupting my family."
IOP runs Monday through Thursday with three flexible tracks: Morning (9:00 AM – 12:30 PM), Afternoon (12:30 – 3:30 PM), and Evening (6:00 – 9:00 PM). Choose the track that fits your life — work, school, or family obligations don't have to compete with your recovery.
Each 3-3.5 hour session packs group therapy, psychoeducation, and skills building into a focused, structured block. Snacks are provided at every session. The program typically runs 60-90 days, with duration adjusted to your progress and clinical needs.
Each IOP session follows a focused rhythm: AM check-in to ground your mindset, group therapy for peer connection and accountability, skills training in CBT, DBT, and ACT techniques, and a wrap-up with goal setting for the next 24 hours.
Weekly individual therapy pairs you with a licensed clinician for focused one-on-one work — processing triggers, deepening insight, and building personalized coping strategies. Within 72 hours of enrollment, you'll meet with our Nurse Practitioner for medication evaluation and management.
Evidence-based skills groups form the backbone of IOP. Dialectical Behavior Therapy builds emotional regulation and distress tolerance. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy reshapes thought patterns that fuel addiction. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy teaches psychological flexibility for real-world challenges.
Psychoeducation groups deepen your understanding of addiction, co-occurring mental health conditions, and relapse prevention. Your recovery approach adapts to your preferences — 12-Step, SMART Recovery, Dharma Recovery, or a personalized blend that resonates with you.
IOP is designed for adults stepping down from PHP who need continued structure, working professionals who can't attend full-day programs, and anyone whose clinical assessment indicates intensive outpatient as the right level of care. The evening track (6-9 PM) is specifically built for people balancing work or school.
Family therapy — available individually and through monthly Zoom support groups — helps repair relationships and gives your loved ones education on supporting recovery. Fellowship between sessions creates the bonds that become your long-term recovery community.
Case management covers the practical realities of rebuilding — resume writing, job search assistance, court paperwork, and connecting you with housing resources including sober living options. Transition planning begins early, not as an afterthought.
Your clinical team coordinates step-down to outpatient care, connects you with external therapists and psychiatrists, and enrolls you in our alumni program — a lifelong community of graduates who understand. Your time at Trailhead may end, but the support never does.
